What to do in Bucharest when it rains or the weather is bad

In Bucharest, it rains about 102 days a year on average, and most precipitation days usually happen in the summer months, especially June and July. That means a rainy day is not an exception, but a situation common enough to deserve a plan.

Depending on the criterion used, rankings can vary slightly, but what matters to visitors is something else: both offer enough space to spend several good hours without depending on the weather.

Here you can go shopping, sit down for a meal in the food court or in a restaurant, and if you simply want to change the pace of the day, you also have the option of a movie. AFI Cotroceni is known for its very large entertainment area, while Băneasa remains a good choice if you want a quieter, airier outing with a clear focus on shopping.

Therme Bucharest deserves to be treated as a main recommendation, not just an alternative. Visitors describe it as a very modern, clean, well-maintained place with pools, saunas, thermal areas and an atmosphere that invites you to relax at your own pace. For many people, that is exactly what makes it suitable on a rainy day: it gives you enough options to spend either a few hours there or an entire day.

If rain catches you in the center, the large museums are one of the best solutions. The Old Town is not interesting only in good weather. On a rainy day, it has the advantage that you can easily move from one café to another, and many places have indoor spaces comfortable enough for a long afternoon of talking, reading or working on a laptop. If you are staying in a central accommodation, getting to such places becomes even easier, because you can reach good spots quickly without depending on transport or weather.
